Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

The sunny afternoon of October 16 brought glee to the faces of the second-grade girls when they hiked to their very own "pumpkin patch" right on St. Mary's Academy campus. The field on the east side of campus was dotted with 36 large orange pumpkins and a dozen hay bales to create an effect of a pumpkin patch, complete with a scarecrow pointing out a cider stand. Following lunch on the hay bales, the girls spent the afternoon playing games. The egg-and-spoon race, with tootsie-pops cleverly substituting eggs, kept the students running and laughing until a tie was declared. During the ring toss, the Sisters and Fr. Reid arrived to cheer on the girls, toss a few rings, and enjoy some cider and donuts. The excitement ended with "picking" the pumpkins to take home, and chasing bubbles in the soft afternoon sun. What a delightful way to spend an October afternoon!
