Competing in the Academy Spelling Bee

The 5th – 8th grade Academy students participated in a Spelling Bee on Wednesday, January 12.

After winning individual classroom spelling bees, 16 contestants participated in this Bee in front of a live audience of fellow classmates. Following 16 rounds, the champion was an Eighth-Grade student and the alternate (second place) a Sixth-Grade student; the championship word was “preened”. These winners are eligible to go on to the County Bee, then possibly the Regional Spelling Bee and even the National Spelling Bee.
